ABOUT
Salazar, 23, Purgatory. INFP. Vegan.

Enclosed are the journals, sufferances, and myriad artistic influences of an androgyne writer-musician, struggling to make sense of the world and their place in it a night at a time.

Just only 13 years old, Zev (Fiddle Oak) creates a fantasy dreamland through his photographs. His camera is named Betsy. Zev’s sister and assistant Nellie is 17. They enjoy working and creating together. The magic of Fiddle Oak cannot be described in words; no word that already exists can accurately sum up the extreme talent and wonder of Zev and Nellie.

Anya Gallaccio - Red on Green, 2012

Artist’s statement:

Red on Green will see the decay and destruction of 10,000 red roses laid in a field upon the gallery floor.

Fragrant, soft and velvety, the voluptuousness of the roses en masse evokes romance and decadence that is slowly allowed to blacken like scabs and die. The thorns and stems, which will be underneath the petals could be seen as a reminder of something quite dangerous. I like the mixture of celebration with death or decay - but it is important that people bring their own experience to the work, that it is evocative and sensual enough to enable this to happen.

The extravagance of a pile of roses, which have their heads pulled off as an aggressive and obsessive gesture, along the lines of ‘loves me, loves me not”, is a passionate thing, but isn’t intended to be sentimental.”

Now that is my kind of artist.

“some historians think that michelangelo was drawing god in a human brain. very few people knew what one looked like at the time; but michelangelo had dissected cadavers and would have known. it even has the hint of a brain stem. if true this would have been a great “fuck you” to the pope whom he was not friendly with but also would have meant god was in a human brain, or created by man.”

You’re doing it right, Michelangelo.

A point I’m frequently pushing is the notion that art isn’t created equal, so I can’t help but wonder if you tumblrites weep as I do when you think of the wildlife utterly wasted in the production of shit “literature”, the authors of many of these titles enjoying the status of bestsellers.

I shouldn’t have to name names.

In an age where the printed word is gradually fading out, will we eventually come to experience some form of quality control? Will publishing companies have regulations put into place as we continue to rape the planet and our higher senses (if we possess them at all) for the sake of nostalgia and a quick, meaningless genre fix?

Probably not, and that’s a sad thing to consider.

As a fledgling writer, I’d love to hear about respected authors attacking target demographics with open hostility. To hear them state that if someone reads so-and-so that it’s quite apparent that they’re severely lacking in both taste and depth.

That their money isn’t desired.

Because Art isn’t created equal, and neither are people.

Mediation Combined with Art Therapy Can Change Your Brain and Lower Anxiety
Cancer and stress go hand-in-hand, and high stress levels can lead to poorer health outcomes in cancer patients. The Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine combined creative art therapy with a Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program for women with breast cancer and showed changes in brain activity associated with lower stress and anxiety after the eight-week program. Their new study appears in the December issue of the journal Stress and Health.
Daniel Monti, MD, director of the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine and lead author on the study, and colleagues have previously published on the success of Mindfulness-based Art Therapy (MBAT) at helping cancer patients lower stress levels and improve quality of life.
“Our goal was to observe possible mechanisms for the observed psychosocial effects of MBAT by evaluating the cerebral blood flow (CBF) changes associated with an MBAT intervention in comparison with a control of equal time and attention,” says Monti. “This type of expressive art and meditation program has never before been studied for physiological impact and the correlation of that impact to improvements in stress and anxiety.”
